The City of Tolleson is looking for career-oriented applicants who desire to be a Police Officer for the city. The successful candidates must be individuals that share the values of the Tolleson Police Department. They must display the highest levels of integrity and ethical standards. Must be team oriented with a high level of maturity and personal responsibility. Applicants must display cultural awareness and sensitivity. This position requires personal dedication to Community Policing Concepts and how it applies to our community.


The best qualified applicants will be hired and required to attend an Arizona Law Enforcement Basic Training Academy as a Tolleson Police Recruit. Upon successfully completing the program, new recruits will begin the Field Training Officer phase.

Position Description

Responds to calls for service by contacting complaints and suspects, conducting investigations, gathering information, completing interviews, documenting facts, making arrests when necessary, and writing reports. Is responsible for implementing community policing activities which include but are not limited to initiating and furthering team projects to address public safety concerns in their assigned area.

Patrols designated areas by operating the patrol vehicle, observing, watching for traffic violators, and providing customer service.

Conducts crime investigations by locating physical evidence, victims, witnesses, and suspects, gathering statements, investigating the crime scene, coming to a conclusion about the crime, and making arrests when necessary.

Performs other duties as assigned by testifying in court, holding training sessions, assisting other bureaus, serving warrants, and conducting some supervisor tasks.


High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). Minimum age requirement 21 years. Valid Arizona Class D Driver's License. Six months to one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency highly desired.

Above average on physical conditioning. This includes running, climbing, crawling, and possess the ability to pass and maintain an entry officer's physical fitness requirement.

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, hazardous materials such as chemicals, oils, and blood and other bodily fluids, extreme temperatures, exposure to the elements, travel across rough, uneven and rocky surfaces and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment.
